About Us
Koselig (“koosh-lee”) Kattery is our family run cattery based in the foothills of Colorado, USA that exclusively breeds Norwegian Forest cats. Our family adopted our first NFC in 2021 and immediately fell in love with the breed for the many reasons that people have loved them throughout history. They are an intelligent and fairly affectionate breed that some describe as “dog-like”. The cats are generally adaptable, inquisitive and bold. The Norwegian Forest cat’s temperament tends to be good with children and other animals, making them perfect family pets.
Our Norwegian Forest Kittens will born and raised in our home – this will in turn provide our kittens with a secure and social upbringing, which is one of our main goals. For us, the cats are firstly family members. Secondly for show and breeding.
Our Norwegian Forest Cats enjoy a secure outdoor space safe from predators and street dangers but free to experience the sounds of birds and play in the powdery Rocky Mountain snow showers, a natural habitat for these northerners!
The Norwegian concept of koselig is a sort of Scandinavian secret for beating seasonal depression and seasonal affective disorder. Koselig centers on accepting and embracing winter for what it is (i.e. cold, dark, etc.) rather than fixating on or being frustrated about what it isn't (i.e. warm, sunny, etc.).
While the Danish hygge celebrates the joys of solitude — think enjoying a good book or a warm bubble bath — the Norwegian koselig emphasizes the gathering together of friends and families. Indoor vs. outdoor warmth. In hygge, the separation from nature is important — it may be cold outside, but it's warm in your house.
Koselig is a concept which is deeply rooted in our Norwegian culture. I would describe it as the feeling of coziness and being comfortable, but it often involves being in a social setting with others rather than being alone. It is about being content and creating a pleasant environment. it is about intimacy and warmth.
koselig is both a noun (koselig) and a verb (kose)
About Koselig
The Norwegian concept of koselig is a variant of the Scandinavian hygge, which has become well known as the world embraces the feelings of comfort and contentment.
While the Danish hygge celebrates the joys of solitude — curling up with a warm mug of tea or cozy chair by the fire to read a book — the Norwegian koselig emphasizes togetherness of friends and families. Koselig to our family is snuggling up with a kitty or the enjoyment that comes from playing with them or watching them bound through the snow!
